The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any prominent awards ceremony nears, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
