From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
